Message from the Superintendent Header Image

Dear CISD Families,

Our core value of collective engagement was in action this week as our 2023 Bond Committee held its second meeting on Monday at Canyon Ranch Elementary, which was built thanks to the voter approved 2016 Bond. This group of parents, community members, students and staff are hard at work synthesizing the efforts of our prior Facilities Planning Committee and Visioning Committee in order to make recommendations to our Board of Trustees for a possible bond election in May 2023.

I encourage our community to be a part of these efforts by participating in our Futures Facilities Survey, which is available at go.coppellisd.com/FuturesSurveyEnglish and go.coppellisd.com/FuturesSurveySpanish. It is important that all CISD stakeholders have a voice in our planning process, so we are asking you to share your priorities for our facilities via this survey. In addition, I hope you will consider attending the Bond Futures Conference on Oct. 13 at CHS9 or signing up for a tour of our facilites. As always, you can see the work of the Bond Committee on our website at www.coppellisd.com/bond

Also this week I, along with several CISD administrators, had the privilege of engaging with school districts across the state at the Texas Public Accountability Consortium (TPAC) meeting hosted by Georgetown ISD. Several school districts are collectively doing work on a Community Based Accountability System (CBAS) to better share the story of the important and innovative work happening in our school districts every day. I am proud to say that CISD is a leader in these efforts and among the first school districts in the state to have a data dashboard online

As a reminder, Friday and Monday are student holidays. I hope you enjoy the State Fair or however you choose to spend the long weekend with your friends and families!

Sincerely,
Brad Hunt Signature
Dr. Brad Hunt

ESSER Funding Feedback Due Oct. 7

CISD is seeking feedback from all district and community stakeholders to help determine how the district should best use Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Funds known as ESSER to address unfinished learning and COVID-19 recovery. In addition to the ESSER Funding Public Hearing on Monday, Sept. 26, the CISD community may email their feedback to input@coppellisd.com by 5 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 7. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the American Rescue Plan was signed into law by President Biden, and it included $122 billion in ESSER funds for U.S. school districts. These funds are designated for one-time or short-term expenditures to address the ongoing impact of the pandemic. For more information on CISD ESSER funding, visit www.coppellisd.com/esser.

CISD Futures Facilities Survey Due on Oct. 14

CISD is creating a Facilities Master Plan in collaboration with community stakeholders. The plan will include the quantity and types of spaces needed for future enrollments, instructional and extracurricular programs and district support functions to support long-range priorities. A Strategic Design process has been underway to determine long-range district priorities. A visioning committee and a facilities planning committee have contributed to the work. Twelve priority areas have been identified and presented to the Board of Trustees for consideration. Eight of the priority areas include facility and other capital needs. A Bond Steering Committee of 60 district and community stakeholders has been appointed by the CISD Board of Trustees to study the district’s identified needs, take stakeholder input and present recommendations to the Board for facility needs through 2028. The committee will report its recommendations to the Board of Trustees in January, and the recommendations may result in a future bond election.

CISD wants all of its stakeholders to have a voice in the district's future facilities planning process. CISD is asking community members to share their priorities for district facilities by completing a survey of 15 questions. Responses are anonymous. CISD will use the survey results to help develop options for capital investments in our school facilities. This is the first of two surveys for community feedback. A second survey will be provided in the coming months to gather feedback on the options that are developed. Please click the link below to take the survey by noon on Friday, Oct. 14.

After seeing a Facebook post about this gift to CISD students, David Bell, a community member from the City of Coppell donated $20 Walmart gift cards to each student.
