Message from the Superintendent Header Image

Dear CISD Families,

We are in the home stretch! As we head towards the winter break, our district continues to focus on our core values of authentic relationships, collective engagement, great teaching and redefining success. As I travel to our campuses, I am in awe of seeing these values in action at our schools each and every day.

For example, the New Tech High @ Coppell Amazon SCOUT event shows how great teaching and collective engagement can lead to our students showing how artificial intelligence can assist with the delivery of Amazon packages in cities across the U.S. The Mockingbird Rakesgiving event held the Friday before Thanksgiving is one example of how our schools model authentic relationships with our neighbors. The achievements of our student-athletes and fine arts learners, some of whom have been in the national spotlight recently, personify our redefining success core value.

All of this to say that Coppell ISD is, has been and remains an exceptional school district because of how our teachers, staff, students and community work together to live out these core values. As you read our stories in this newsletter, online, on social media and even in the news, I hope you join me in being #CISDProud to be a part of Coppell ISD!

Enjoy your week!

Sincerely,

Brad Hunt Signature

Amazon SCOUT Event at New Tech

New Tech Scout
New Tech High @ Coppell learner-designed robots may just be the droids Amazon is looking for to deliver packages in major cities across the country. On Dec. 3, New Tech geometry, marketing and FUZE film students demonstrated how robots could deliver packages and navigate U.S. cities such as New York, New Orleans and Washington, D.C., as part of the Amazon SCOUT (So Carry Our Things) event. These students showcased to scale how miniature robots could deliver packages through model cities, designed by geometry students in front of a panel of business and community judges. About CISD 75 students in 6th to 9th grade got to be “in the room where it happens,” when actors from the touring production of the Broadway hit Hamilton presented a workshop at CMS West after school on Nov. 29.  Facilitated by CMS Choir Teacher Allison Hartzell and Theatre Teacher Frances Hazelton, two professional performers from the cast of the Dallas tour of Hamilton — Zoe Jensen, who plays Eliza Hamilton and Tyler Belo, who plays Hercules Mulligan/James Madison, gave a one-hour performance workshop on vocal work or acting. Jensen and Belo then hosted a question and answer session for the students who signed up for the workshop, followed by a short performance of a few songs from Hamilton.  Read more at go.coppellisd.com/cmswesthamilton.

Spotlight on Authentic Relationships: Message of Thanks for Bus Driver

Photo of Kiana Lindsey and Sandhya Karthick
One person who Sandhya Karthick, an 8th grader at CMS West, is grateful for is her bus driver Kiana Lindsey. Karthick shared a message of “My Thanksgiving — Driving with Kindness” to show her appreciation for her bus driver, who always asks each of her riders, "How was your day?" On her bus, Lindsey knows her students’ names, gives our candy on special occasions, engages with her riders, conducts trivia games and more. Karthick says Lindsey makes her excited to get on the bus and she is grateful to have such a caring and kind bus driver who helps her start and end her day on the right note. Karthick says, “Kiana Lindsey will always be in my heart as the bus driver who lights up my day." CISD's transportation partner, Durham School Services, is looking for more bus drivers like Kiana Lindsey. Those who wish to apply can visit https://careers.nellc.com/jobs/?location=COPPELL. Durham will train drivers to become certified and licensed. This is a great position for retirees or others desiring part-time work.
